Travelling This Festive Season? Make Sure Your Email Stays Accessible

The year-end festive season is here — a time to relax, celebrate, and perhaps travel abroad. While you’re preparing for your trip, don’t forget one small but important detail: ensuring you can still access your email securely wherever you go.

At Lookafter, we protect your account with a security feature called Suspicious Access Prevention (SAP). This feature helps keep your mailbox safe by blocking logins from locations that are not on your whitelisted countries list.

How It Works

Every time you log in to your webmail, the system checks the location of the login attempt. If the location is not on your approved whitelist, access will be blocked automatically.

This prevents unauthorized users — such as hackers attempting to log in from foreign or suspicious IP addresses — from gaining access to your account, even if they somehow have your password.

Before You Travel

If you’re planning to check emails while overseas, remember to whitelist the countries you’ll be visiting before your trip.

For example:

  • Flying to Japan for a holiday? Add Japan to your whitelist.
  • Transiting in Singapore and might check your mail there? Include Singapore too.

Once you’re back home, you can remove these temporary entries to keep your whitelist clean and secure.

📘 Need help? Follow our step-by-step guide on how to whitelist countries in Suspicious Access Prevention to update your settings easily before your trip.

Alternative Option: Access via IMAP

If you prefer not to update your whitelist for every trip, another option is to set up your email account using IMAP on your mobile phone or mail application (such as Outlook, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird).

IMAP keeps your mailbox synced with the server, allowing you to read and manage emails securely without needing to log in through webmail — which may be restricted by SAP if your location isn’t whitelisted.

Example: You can set up your email on your phone before travelling, so you can continue checking messages seamlessly even if webmail access is blocked.

See our Email Setup Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Extra Tip: Enable Second Factor Authentication (2Auth)

For added protection, enable Second Factor Authentication (2Auth) in your account. This feature sends a One-Time Password (OTP) to your secondary email address whenever you log in, ensuring that only you can access your account — even if someone else knows your password.

Follow our 2Auth setup guide to enable OTP verification for your logins.

Tips for a Smooth Holiday Login

  • Whitelist before you fly – Add your travel destinations early.
  • Use IMAP for convenience – Set it up once and stay connected.
  • Enable 2Auth – Add an extra layer of login protection.
  • Avoid public Wi-Fi – Use secure networks whenever possible.
  • Review SAP settings regularly – Keep your whitelist updated and minimal.
  • Contact support if needed – If you forget to whitelist and get blocked, our support team can help verify and restore access.

Enjoy a Safe and Joyful Festive Season

Security shouldn’t take a holiday — even when you do. With Suspicious Access Prevention and IMAP access, your email stays both protected and accessible no matter where your travels take you.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at Lookafter!
